We invite you to submit an abstract to Session S019, 
Geophysics in the Oceans: Observations, Modeling, and New Frontiers 
, a cross-listed session spanning the Study of the Earth’s Deep Interior, Seismology, and Tectonophysics sections at the AGU 2026 Fall Meeting in San Francisco.
Session Description:
The ocean basins are a fundamental expression of plate tectonics, covering the majority of Earth’s surface and encompassing the entire life cycle of oceanic plates. The oceans thus offer unique opportunities to investigate the core processes and components of plate tectonics, while also posing challenges for instrumentation and analysis. Ongoing efforts to collect in situ geophysical data continue to fill observational gaps and illuminate solid Earth processes across a range of spatial and temporal scales.
This session invites contributions that draw on marine geophysical observations to investigate tectonic processes and interactions across the hydrosphere, lithosphere, and/or asthenosphere.
Topics could include, but are not limited to:

Imaging and/or geodynamical modeling of the oceanic lithosphere/asthenosphere

Mantle discontinuities

Mantle convection and plumes

The presence/role of partial melt and volatiles

Intraplate volcanism
