Dear ORFEUS community,
We would like to draw your attention to a workshop on Geodynamic Computational Modelling which will take place at the University of Mainz from September 28 to October 2 2026. The workshop - organised by Boris Kaus and Marcel Thielmann - will provide hands-on training to strengthen practical skills in computational geodynamics and seismology. The program will combine introductory sessions with guided exercises and time for independent work, with a particular focus on Julia-based tools, GeophysicalModelGenerator + Picker to visualize geophysical data, LaMEM to perform geodynamic simulations, and SeisSol/Cybershake for seismic rupture and seismic cycle simulations.
This is the tentative schedule:
| Morning | Afternoon | |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | -- | Julia Introduction |
| Tuesday | GMG + Picker | LaMEM |
| Wednesday | LaMEM | Free exercises |
| Thursday | SeisSol | Cybershake |
| Friday | Free exercises | -- |
A workshop fee is not imposed. However, travel expenses and accomodation cannot be covered by the organisers.
Further details will be communicated upon registration. Since the number of participants is limited by the size of the lecture room, we ask you to apply using this form: https://www.umfragen.uni-kiel.de/modelling-workshop
Application Deadline is June 20.
We hope many of you will be able to join us in Mainz.
Best regards
Felix Eckel
