Dear Colleagues,
We are thrilled to invite you to submit your abstracts to Session SM 8.5 at the EGU2025 General Assembly (27 April - 2 May 2025). The session, co-organized by AS 4 in PICO format, focuses on the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) Monitoring and its civil and scientific applications.
The interdisciplinary session explores cutting-edge advancements in seismic, hydroacoustic, infrasound, and radionuclide technologies, as well as atmospheric transport modelling for detecting, locating and analyzing natural and human-made events in underground, underwater, or atmospheric environments. Contributions to Nuclear-Test-Ban Monitoring, utilizing either the International Monitoring System (IMS) or On-Site Inspection (OSI) instrumentation, data, or methods, also include:
- Enhancement of seismic velocity models and regional seismic travel-time models
- Acoustic wave propagation modelling
- Atmospheric transport modelling of radionuclides
- Data fusion across different technologies
- Innovative applications of machine learning in event detection, source localization, discrimination, and monitoring
Additionally, we highly encourage contributions showcasing the use of IMS or OSI data and methods for civil or scientific uses, such as disaster risk reduction, climate studies, or Earth science research.
Join us in shaping the future of CTBT monitoring and its application!
Abstract Submission
Deadline: 15 Jan 2025, 13:00 CET
The session is co-organized and supported by the German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR), GeoSphere Austria, and the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO). Feel free to share this announcement with interested colleagues.
Looking forward to your valuable contributions!
With best regards,
Christoph Pilger, Maria-Theresia Apoloner, Anne Tipka, Ehsan Qorbani Chegeni
PS: Please apologize any cross postings. We try to make sure we don’t miss reaching out to you.
