it is with great sadness that I write to inform you that our colleague and friend Doğan
Kalafat is no longer with us. My thoughts are with his family and close friends.

Dear Colleagues,
I sadly inform you that our dear colleague, Doğan Kalafat, a unique expert in instrumental
seismology, earthquake, and tsunami operations nurtured at KOERI, passed away today. The
entire seismological community of Turkey is deeply saddened by this loss.
A funeral ceremony will be held for him at KOERI tomorrow at 10:30.
I wanted to pass this information on to you, my geoscientist friends and colleagues with
whom he has worked for many years. Doğan was a helpful, positive, hardworking, and
constructive colleague, not only in the professional field but also as a person.
He will live in our hearts forever.
