ESM Update: New release available

Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to announce that a new release of the ESM database (https://esm-db.eu/) is now available.

This release introduces several important updates, including:

  • Renewed web processing tool, featuring enhanced quality control procedures within the automatic processing workflow; improved waveform trimming and filtering; and an additional processing method specifically designed for near-source records featuring fling-step with permanent displacement.

  • Assignment of a quality class to each record (BEST, GOOD, BAD), accompanied by quality-related metadata and a warnings field (listing all issues identified in the waveform quality control). The entire ESM dataset has been reprocessed using the updated framework, resulting in enhanced overall quality and consistency.

  • Updated web services and ASDF file headers with quality-related metadata. The complete list of the ESM web services is available here: https://esm-db.eu/webservices/.

  • Public access to automatically processed data.

  • Integration of additional event catalogues (NOA, SED, RESIF web services).

  • Fourier Amplitude Spectra (FAS) download via the Flatfile (https://esm-db.eu/esmws/flatfile/1/) and Event-Data (https://esm-db.eu/esmws/eventdata/1/) Web Services.

These improvements significantly enhance the reliability, consistency, and accessibility of the data available through ESM, supporting more timely scientific analyses and engineering applications.

An update of the web pages is currently in progress.

We would like to thank all co-authors and contributors (https://esm-db.eu/#/about/who/the_wg) for their valuable work.

We thank you for your continued interest and use of the ESM database.

We warmly welcome your comments and feedback.

Best regards,

The ESM Working Group @ Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia
