Dear Colleagues and Friends,
We invite you to register (https://evaluation-app1.let.ethz.ch/TakeSurvey.aspx?SurveyID=m8305673) for the ORFEUS and Geo-INQUIRE Workshop 2026:
“Multi-hazard, cross-disciplinary science and data services: from engineering & near-fault seismology to tsunamis”.
The workshop will be held in Istanbul on 3–4 September 2026 (with the morning of 5 September currently being considered for a possible field trip or lab visit), at the Kandilli Campus of Boğaziçi University. The workshop is organised as an integrated component of the Peter Bormann Young Seismologist Training Course (YSTC) in Istanbul, just before the ESC General Assembly. We look forward to strong community participation, continuing into the days of the ESC General Assembly. The preliminary programme, subject to change, is evolving here: https://polybox.ethz.ch/index.php/s/2iEsAnnNLfgNmnD.
Participation is free of charge. The maximum number of participants is limited to 100 per day, including organisers, speakers, and trainers. Travel grants will be available through Geo-INQUIRE and ORFEUS funds to subsidise eligible travel and accommodation expenses. The grants will support travel and accommodation to participate in the workshop and in the ESC GA (including the early-bird registration fee). Grantees will be reimbursed after the workshops.
The procedure for applying for travel grants is described in the registration form: it includes submitting a presentation and a motivation letter (maximum 500 words), together with the email addresses of one or two referees, and proof of abstract submission to the ESC General Assembly.
Registration will close on 23 June 2026, or earlier if the maximum capacity of 100 participants is reached. Recipients of travel grants will be informed by 30 June 2026 at the latest, allowing timely purchase of plane or train tickets and booking of accommodation. All participants—including organisers, speakers, trainers, and attendees—are expected to arrange their travel independently.
We warmly thank the YSTC organisers at METU (Middle East Technical University) and KOERI (Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute), as well as our local hosts at the Kandilli Campus of Boğaziçi University, for making it possible to plan this joint event.
